BIOGRAPHY
Aashima Mehrotra is a distinguished visual artist and civil servant based in Delhi, whose passion for art has been nurtured since childhood. Drawing inspiration from people, nature, and travel, she pursued her artistic journey by studying the works of celebrated artists such as Nandlal Bose, Amrita Sher-Gil, Claude Monet, Picasso, and Vincent van Gogh. Primarily self-taught, her skills matured under the guidance of renowned painters like Veer Munshi and Banshidhar Pratihary from Shantiniketan.
Her professional role in Railways and Tourism has exposed her to the rich diversity of Indian towns and various art forms, further fuelling her creative vision. Her works are deeply personal, reflecting her life experiences and artistic philosophy. She has developed her own distinct visual language and philosophy, which she calls 'ISM.'
Aashima's artistic achievements are notable. Her debut solo exhibition was held at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai, one of the most significant galleries in South Asia. Her works have been showcased in national exhibitions, including those organized by AIFACS, GMR, and Lalit Kala Akademi. She has held over 15 solo exhibition and participated in over 25 group exhibitions. Her paintings have garnered accolades on both national and international platforms. Notably, her painting "Kasani" was selected for the 89th Annual All India Exhibition of Arts by the Indian Academy of Fine Arts-Amritsar, and her work "Yellow Satva" earned her a solo show sponsorship at Chitramayee State Gallery of Art in Hyderabad. She also secured 4th place in the "Art United – Together We Stand" competition organized by New York Art Competition in collaboration with Agora Art Gallery, and 6th place in the American Art Awards in the category of Impressionism-Human.
Internationally, Aashima participated in the Plein Air Russian Atlantis event in St. Petersburg, and her paintings were showcased by ICCR at Beijing as part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,” and “Arindam” in Bikaner house. She is an active member of the Art Convergence group, Kalaakalpam.
Aashima’s works, though influenced by impressionist and post-impressionist styles, embrace experimentation with abstract styles and mixed media, intertwining vivid imagination, natural elements, and treasured memories. Her studio at Lalit Kala, Garhi, serves as the creative hub for her dynamic explorations. Her artworks are found in the collections of prominent figures such as Adil Hussain, Pheroza Godrej, Deepika Jindal, the US Embassy consulate, Sr Bureaucrats Hector Capitals, Singapore, High Court Judges, Ex Minister of Tourism and Dalmia Group amongst others.
